The world currently relies largely on fossil fuels for producing energy. It creates an alarming situation as fossil fuels are not a renewable resource, and the world is beginning to experience a shortage. Fortunately, a solution to this dire situation already exists; Solar panels convert the single most sustainable form of energy- the sun rays- into usable power. It is clean, renewable, limitless, and sufficient to power the whole globe.

We asked the experts to step in and further explain just how solar panels are considered sustainable;

Michael Peres is an Engineer, Journalist, Radio Host, Founder of multiple companies, including Hexa Cloud Services, Hexa Web Systems, Peres Daily, Israel Now News, SEO for Public Figures, Scale My Publication, Scale My Podcast. According to Michael…

Solar panels are one of the most sustainable and cleanest sources of energy we have right now. They are considered sustainable because their life span can be long if you properly take care of them. Solar panels will also solve your electricity usage since the conversion capacity of solar panels with sunlight into electric power is quite high.

One of the best things about this is that they don’t give off carbon dioxide in the sunlight to electrical energy conversion, so they don’t add to the greenhouse gases on Earth. This is what is making them sustainable. Many different countries in the world are now using solar panels on a big scale as it is helping them solve their energy problems.

Personally, our house has solar panels on our roofs, and we haven’t paid electricity bills since then.

The reason why solar panels are considered sustainable is that, unlike fossil fuels that are limited in their resources and produce toxic emissions that pollute the environment, solar panels use the sun as a renewable resource to offset our carbon footprint without releasing carbon dioxide into the atmosphere or using any water to produce energy for our communities. In addition,

Solar panels are constantly being improved to receive more of the sun’s clean energy with fewer materials at a lower cost than ever before. This means that by using solar panels to power our communities, we are slowing down the process of global warming, improving our air quality, and creating a future that has unlimited potential for energy production.

Solar energy as a whole is considered sustainable due to the availability of the resource. In some areas of the world, there is sun 360 days a year or more. So to say a particular solar panel is sustainable is a bit of a misnomer. We do not disturb the earth to use the power of the sun. However, we disturb the earth to make solar panels, solar thermal collectors, and passive solar homes.

Once built, the energy is available to capture mostly free of charge and rather sustainably. I am not sure anyone knows the lifespan of a photovoltaic cell. I have an early Arco solar panel that still produces electricity, and it is from the early ‘80s. In my book, that is the pretty sustainable production of electricity with the initial cost and embodied energy paid for years ago.

Sustainability takes on several meanings in this day in age and political climate. I have found no time limit, duration, or scale that an energy source has to prove a reliable, sustainable source. If an energy source meets the criteria of being renewable or can reproduce itself within a normal human lifetime, it is generally categorized as renewable as well as sustainable. We may be trying to compare energy resources, production, or capture devices to see which is the most sustainable per megawatt produced.

This is where you really need to define sustainability! Can we sustain our way of life as it is today on solar panels? I have to say not at this point in time. We need a diverse mix of production at this point in time with an eye on the future to produce more renewable energy capture devices and diversify our energy portfolio to sustain for a much longer time and possibly a cleaner future.

Sustainable often becomes a relative term. I often think about satellites that orbit the earth and provide valuable services to us on earth. How are they powered, and how long can they sustain their operation? Is this a key thing to think about when you ask about sustainable solar panels?

Stephanie Cole is A Writer at The Round-Up. She has a Master of Science in Renewable Energy Engineering (MSREE) and has solar panels installed at her property. According to Stephanie…

Solar power is considered to be a leading sustainable solution because it is able to meet the growing demand of today’s people without compromising the demand of the people that would require it in the future.

Firstly solar panels convert the single most sustainable resource on the planet, the sun’s energy, into electrical energy. When using solar energy, you reduce your carbon footprint – it is a clean, competitive energy source. Greenhouse gas emissions are dramatically lower than those from coal and gas.

Secondly, it takes a very short time, approximately 1-4 years, for the panels to generate the energy that it takes to make it. They have an assumed life expectancy of 30 years, meaning that a whopping 87% to 97% of the total energy generated by the panels will be clean – as, during this time pollution, greenhouse gases will not be generated, and resources won’t be being depleted.

Thirdly, it has been calculated that covering just 0.16% of the global land surface would meet the world’s demands.

Lastly, production has a low environmental impact because panels are produced from abundant materials and are 90% recyclable. Energy is also recovered from the non-recyclable parts via incineration.

There is only one reason why solar panels may not be able to meet the world’s demand, and this is due to the fact that for solar panels to be produced, they require critical raw materials and precious metals such as silicon and silver. If these were depleted, it would stand to reason that new solar panels could not be produced.

However, it is anticipated that the quantities required will be reduced by further improvements in design so that 100% of the world’s electricity demand can be met and not limited by a lack of such materials.

Solar panels can save energy. In fact, they can save $1,500 in utilities each year. This may not only allow homeowners to save on energy but maybe even produce energy. Considering the fact that solar panels usually cost $15,000 to install solar panels should pay for themselves in 10 years. Since solar panels can last 25-30 years with no major maintenance, they could be expected to pay for themselves 3 times over in their lifetime. In addition to being for a sustainable world, they can help people save money.

Alan Duncan is the Founder & Chief Executive Officer of Solar Panels Network. According to Alan…

Solar panels harness thermal energy from the most significant source of energy, sunlight. As the temperature rises, so will the sustainable energy from solar panels. They are considered sustainable because the energy source from the sun is infinite. Furthermore, as climate change causes heat retention, the energy output derived from solar panels will likely increase.

Solar panels are a good prospect because they provide the cleanest source of energy without polluting the environment. Furthermore, this source of power does not waste water or any other resources after installation.

Compared to the alternatives, thermal energy is far more sustainable and cost-effective. There’s only one catch to being sustainable; you have to employ numerous solar panels to supply ample energy.
