Grand Opening Attracts Local Press
The opening of the retail biodiesel fueling station was a great success with press coverage from all over the state in television, radio and newspapers. Bartkus Oil reported that the company sold 1,000 gallons of biodiesel several days before the event through word-of-mouth. Boulder Mayor Will Toor explained that the City's decision to move to biodiesel had been a practical one, based on minimal expense and the potential for reducing local air pollution; CU Chancellor Paul Tabolt thanked engineering student Andrew Azman for his biodiesel ventures which have prompted the university to make a longstanding commitment to support alternative fuels, and and Blue Sun Biodiesel President and CEO Jeff Probst described how the Blue Sun's business strategy would benefit local famers who are growing the crops for feedstock.
