Governor Bill Richardson Fuels Biodiesel Dragster, Celebrates Alternative Fuels Achievement

GOLDEN, Colo., May 27 – New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson fueled the Cummins-Blue Sun Biodiesel dragster this past Saturday, helping the Nambe Falls Travel Center mark a step toward clean energy. The event featured a range of biodiesel-powered and flex-fuel vehicles to help visitors become more familiar with these alternatives to traditionally-fueled vehicles.

The Nambe Falls Travel Center is representative of the future of fueling stations, featuring major alternative fuels like biodiesel and ethanol. The Travel Center is only the third store in New Mexico to offer E10, E85, B5 and B20.

Filling up on biodiesel is no different than using traditional diesel fuel. Any diesel engine can run blends of up to 20 percent biodiesel without modification, and without voiding manufacturer warranties provided the fuel meets industry specifications.

Nambe Falls selected premium Blue Sun Fusion™ B20 biodiesel because Fusion delivers greatly improved engine performance over traditional diesel fuel, has lower emissions and enjoys a strong brand franchise throughout the Mountain States.

“We’re glad to have Nambe Pueblo Development Corporation as a partner in New Mexico to bring customers the alternative fuels they demand and to help New Mexico continue on the path to becoming a clean energy state,” said Mike Miller, President and COO of Blue Sun Biodiesel.

Also in attendance were representatives from the Nambe Pueblo Development Corporation who own the center, Blue Sun Biodiesel who supplies the B100 used in the final Fusion B20 blend, and Alta Fuels who is the authorized distributor of Blue Sun Biodiesel in the area.

The Nambe Falls Travel Center acts as a retailer and wholesaler in the area with a total capacity of 128,000 gallons of fuel. The center is located just 15 minutes north of Santa Fe, N.M., on US Highway 285/84 at Exit 177.

“Whether you need 5 gallons or 5,000 gallons, the Nambe Falls Travel Center can help,” says Herbert Yates, CEO, of the Nambe Pueblo Development Corporation, owners of the Travel Center.

Alta Fuels, LLC of Alamosa, Colorado is Blue Sun’s exclusive distributor in the market and supplier of the Nambe Falls Travel Center’s Blue Sun Fusion B20 fuel.

Blue Sun’s biodiesel burns cleaner than traditional diesel. The use of Blue Sun Fusion B20 fuel, compared to using regular petroleum diesel, reduces carbon monoxide by 24%, hydrocarbons 29%, and nitrogen oxides 4%, according to the National Renewable Energy Laboratory. Hydrocarbons and particulates have been shown to cause asthma, lung cancer and chronic respiratory symptoms.
