Jeff Probst is Chief Executive Officer of Blue Sun Biodiesel. He has over 20 years’ experience in industrial and consumer product development, branding, positioning and imaging in key management positions with Gould Electronics, Duracell, and Ecolab. While at Duracell, Mr. Probst had high-level involvement in the development and launch of virtually all of the new consumer battery technologies of the past two decades. In launching these products, Mr. Probst differentiated commodity-based sales to pioneer premium positioning, pricing, and strategic alliances, and developed substantial new business sales and margins. At Ecolab Inc., the world leader in advanced cleaning technologies for hospitality, institutional and industrial markets, Mr. Probst expanded Japanese and Asia Pacific markets, and drove overall revenue growth through the development of new sales and marketing strategies and product branding and imaging.
Mr. Probst has served as Chief Executive Officer of Blue Sun since January 2003 and in that role was responsible for the development and successful deployment of Blue Sun’s FusionTM and DTXTM brands and the positioning of the company’s B20 specialty fuel products.
Mr. Probst earned a Master of International Management from the American Graduate School of International Management, Glendale, Arizona and a B.S. in Economics from Miami University, Oxford, Ohio.
Mr. Washburn has over 35 years of financial and technology experience in a variety of senior level roles (CFO, COO, CEO, Advisory and Fiduciary Board) and has spent much of his career leading early-stage and emerging market companies through rapid scale to their next levels. Mr. Washburn’s experience spans all the crucial facets of rapid growth companies including, successfully concluding multiple capital, debt/equity transactions, business development and strategic planning, technology and business process implementation, mergers and acquisitions and private-to-public transactions.
Mr. Washburn is unusually well grounded in both corporate finance and technology systems and infrastructures and is particularly adept and a highly sought after business process and technology specialist for rapid growth companies. Prior to joining Blue Sun, Mr. Washburn led the successful GRC (corporate governance, risk management and compliance) implementation at Pacific Ethanol, Inc., (Nasdaq “PEIX”) in support of that company’s scale from a $70 million private company to its present $500 million public company status, including installation of new ERP systems for information collection, processing and reporting and successfully leading the company through its initial Sarbanes-Oxley assessment and evaluation.
Mr. Washburn commenced his career with Arthur Andersen & Company where he served as engagement head of Boise Cascade and Georgia Pacific Corporations and was a specialist in SEC matters and Internal Control systems and processes. Following Andersen, Mr. Washburn served in senior leadership roles at Total Information Systems, Inc., an ERP software developer, IPRO, Inc., an imaging technology developer and litigation support company and OneSource Technologies, Inc., (OTB “ORCS”) a large-scale equipment technology service provider.
Mr. Washburn, a CPA holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting from Brigham Young University.
Mike Miller brings 30 years of experience in leading, consumer-facing multi-nationals such as BP, Castrol, PepsiCo and Ford to his Chief Operating role at the company. He spent the last decade, in Europe and Asia, leading large, cross-functional Petroleum teams in complex cultures and demanding environments. As the first American appointed to an overseas CEO spot by Burmah Castrol plc, he was recognized for strong executive leadership in two of their Annual Reports while in Malaysia and managing through the Asian Financial Crisis. He blends strategic thinking with an operational management style to transform business profitability and improve market competitiveness. His 15 years of experience in the Fuels and Lubricants sectors of the Oil & Gas industry include leading BP’s efforts to improve the economics of their global gasoline business, growing BP and Castrol’s portfolio of lubricant companies in S.E. Asia and successfully starting up Castrol’s downstream operations in Indonesia. He has six years experience as Chairman of a large Malaysian lubricant joint venture and also served on several other Main Boards while in Asia.
His earlier years of broad-based financial and strategy experiences include corporate, regional, divisional and country assignments in roles such as SVP Finance and CFO while at Castrol and PepsiCo. His track record includes successes in demanding general management, turnaround and business development/integration roles, especially those carrying an international flavor. He’s successfully led or steered 30 change initiatives during his career, many global or regional in scope.
Mr. Miller holds a MBA from the Harvard Business School and he has a B.S. in Business Administration from Northeastern University, where he graduated with Highest Honors. He lives in Denver, is a passionate fly fisherman who’s fished extensively on three continents and sits on the Board of Denver Trout Unlimited.
Mr. Lafferty, one of the founders of Blue Sun, had previously served as Vice President, Operations of Blue Sun and SunFuels since its founding in November, 2001. He had also served as Secretary, Treasurer and Director during his time with SunFuels, and has been a Vice President and Director of ARES Blue Sun Development, LLC since its inception. Prior to founding SunFuels Mr. Lafferty gained experience in the electric power and renewable energy fields while serving as an Electrical Engineer for Exponential Engineering Co. He has 15 years of applied electrical engineering experience with a focus on power systems. Mr. Lafferty earned a B.S. in electrical engineering from Colorado State University.
Mr. Kleinman has served as Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary of SunFuels and Blue Sun since March 2007 and as an independent contractor attorney of Blue Sun since March 2006. Between February 2002 and March 2007 Mr. Kleinman was engaged in the private practice of law, first as a sole practitioner and then between April 2005 and March 2007 with the Finberg Law Firm, P.C., in Boulder, Colorado. Mr. Kleinman earned a B.A. in political science from the College of Wooster and a J.D. from Case Western Reserve University School of Law.
