Biodiesel is a cleaner burning, renewable fuel for diesel engines made from oilseed crops like canola or soybean. It can be used in existing diesel engines with no mechanical modification.
Blue Sun Fusion is a premium, ultra low sulfur diesel fuel created through a technologically advanced process that blends premium ingredients, including our specially formulated DTX additive. Blue Sun Fusion contains 20 percent biodiesel, so it also meets EPA alternative fuel standards. Fusion exceeds all ASTM specifications to make it the highest quality diesel fuel on the market.
No. Blue Sun Fusion is formulated from a winterized diesel fuel and additized for cold weather performance down to -20°F or colder. Fusion is used in harsh winter weather conditions at ski resorts year round.
The higher lubricity of Blue Sun Fusion will reduce engine wear and extend component life. The solvency effect of pure biodiesel means Fusion will clean carbon buildup in your engine, also prolonging engine life. Fusion has a higher cetane rating than regular diesel fuel which will lead to quicker cold starts and more complete combustion, thereby improving emissions and, in many cases, fuel economy.
The same solvency effect of pure biodiesel that cleans accumulated sediment in engines can lead to increased fuel filter plugging and degradation of natural rubber materials. Because Blue Sun Fusion is a B20 blend, these effects are limited, and no modifications to your fuel filters or natural rubber engine materials are required. Blue Sun has spent 6 years developing this fuel and over 400 million road miles have been logged on Blue Sun Fusion with minimal problems.
Using Blue Sun Fusion will not void your vehicle’s warranty. In fact, it is a violation of federal law for any vehicle manufacturer to void your warranty based on the fuel you use. If Fusion is ever proven to be the direct cause of failure to any OEM-warranted fuel system materials, Blue Sun will repair or replace the damaged material at no cost. Yes! You can easily switch back and forth between Fusion and petroleum diesel with no negative impact on your engine.
Biodiesel blends are a finished product made of part biodiesel and part diesel fuel designated Bxx where xx is representative of the percent biodiesel in the blend. So B20 is 20% biodiesel and 80% diesel fuel and B5 is 5% biodiesel and 95% diesel fuel.
Most of the biodiesel produced in the United States is made from soy bean oil, but biodiesel can be made from a variety of feedstock’s including animal fats, waste greases, and virgin oils like Canola. The feedstock that is used to make biodiesel will directly affect things like cold weather capabilities, shelf life, combustion efficiency, and performance of the finished product. Another big factor in the quality of Biodiesel is the technology that is used to process the oil into biodiesel. Across the industry there a many different technologies being used to make biodiesel and all of them produce products that are very different from each other. Biodiesel from your neighborhood guru who makes it in his garage will be very different from biodiesel produced by a full scale production facility. So make sure you know where/what your biodiesel is coming from.
The answer is yes. Running biodiesel in the winter is something that Blue Sun customers have been doing for years. Blue Sun Fusion Premium B20, including Blue Sun’s proprietary winter DTX additive has a CFPP (cold filter plugging point) of minus 20 degrees Fahrenheit. Which means you can operate on Blue Sun Fusion B20 all the way down to 20 degrees below zero. Other biodiesel and higher level blends may not perform as well as Blue Sun Fusion B20 in the winter and until you are curtain of the quality and cold weather capabilities of a biodiesel product you are strongly advised to request test data on cold weather capabilities from your supplier.
