PLANT ENGINEER FOR ADVANCED BIOFUELS FACILITY

An advanced biofuel technology company with a 10 year history in the renewable fuels sector is seeking a highly motivated candidate for a Plant Engineering position in St. Joseph, Missouri. The successful candidate will demonstrate the following credentials/capabilities:

• Technical professional degree, preferably a B.S in Chemical or Mechanical or Agricultural or Electrical Engineering
• Experience in a heavy industrial, chemical or ag-processing environment of 6 years +/-, and experience with fluids transfer (pumping and pump/line sizing), heat exchange, thermodynamics and OSHA PSM safety concepts shall be weighted heavily.
• Experience with PLC control architectures and PC-based HMI
• Experience with steam boilers and other infrastructural utility systems (electrical, compressed/instrument air, nitrogen, cooling towers, chillers, process water and wastewater management, natural gas).
• Ability to lead and motivate Chemists, Maintenance and Utility personnel in the performance of their defined support roles
• Ability to gather and analyze process data and engage action plans to maximize plant optimization, yield and volume performance.
• Ability to work within a team of other technical professionals to achieve operations objectives and manage capital and expense plans.

This position shall require the successful candidate to live in the greater St. Joseph, MO community or to otherwise reside within 60 minutes commute time from the facility in St. Joseph, Missouri. Salary and benefits commensurate with experience. Relocation package is negotiable.

POSITION PURPOSE: The purpose of this job is to assist the performance of Biodiesel operational functions in order to benefit internal and external customers of Blue Sun St. Joe Refining, ensuring quality biodiesel, glycerine, fatty acid, and soap stock production, while maintaining clean, safe, and well-kept facilities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Learn to operate the Biodiesel master computer system. This includes operations of the main master control, process production system along with recording data and generating system reports on a timely basis. Assist in load out and receiving functions when needed, which include preparing trucks and future rail cars for shipment and loading products (oil, animal fats, waste oils, process chemicals and acids, finished biodiesel and co-products) by rail and truck. Learn to perform various quality control functions: for fats, oils, biodiesel, glycerine, and fatty acid, visual inspection of all types of inventory, measuring physical inventory on a periodic basis, and operation of lab equipment including centrifuge and filtering equipment. Be able to operate forklift and rail road equipment. Portray and maintain a professional customer interface with every customer at the facility. Learn and assist with general facility maintenance and housekeeping, including equipment inspection and monitoring throughout the facility.

JOB REQUIREMENTS: Ability to understand chemistry- to physically work 12 hr shifts and safely work in chemical environment. Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and customers both oral and written. Work and think independently as well as together as a team. Learn to use computerized operational equipment. Be available for day or night work, and overtime as required by supervisor.

EXPOSURES: Exposures may include: methanol, sodium methylate, vegetable/animal/waste oils, methyl esters, fatty acid, soap stocks, glycerin, acids- sulfuric, hydrochloric, phosphoric, and citric, base- sodium hydroxide, weather, temperature extremes, and medium to high noise levels.

WORKING CONDITIONS: 1. Frequent extended or flexible work hours, including nights. 2. Occasionally outside – weather changes. 3. Varied workstations at the facility, not in one place. 4. Exposure to a variety of conditions (continuous heat, hazardous liquids).

JOB QUALIFICATIONS: Education required: High school diploma or equivalent minimum. Experience required: 6-12 months general work experience preferred. Previous chemical processing or related experience preferred. Skills required: General knowledge of computers, basic mechanical and electrical skills, and attention to detail.
